Nursery Ideas

Well for anyone who knows me……..you know we are expecting a baby boy come the end of June, or so we hope!! 🙂 When I was pregnant with my daughter, I had her nursery planned-visualized as you will, in my head from day one. I’m a girly girl, I love pink, purple and yellow. Butterflies, flowers and anything fluffy. Though I was more than thrilled to find out we were expecting a baby boy this time around, I just have no clue about “boy” things. Plus we have been busy, non-stop, go, go, go since day one of this pregnancy. Well here we are mid-April and we still have an empty nursery. I’ve been so wrapped up with dealing with the terrible two’s, spending as much time as I can with my daughter, and just surviving that my poor baby Boy’s room has been on the bottom of the list. Well this weekend I walked in and starting thinking. When my husband asked me how my day was this past Friday I said “Great!!” I finally got a few hours to think about Drew! So all weekend in my spare time I’ve been on Pinterest, Target, Pottery Barn and Etsy searching for ideas, furniture, and anything I can find for my baby boy!

I wanted to share with you my ideas and thoughts! I had a few things in mind when I first found out we were having a boy, immediately I knew I wanted a dark blue and dark red, I’m not a fan of baby blue and I’m a pretty neutral person so when we moved and I realized the room we were giving Drew was a light brown I wanted to keep it that color because throwing in Blue’s and Red’s would make it perfect for my taste. I didn’t have an actual theme in mind, I’m not fan of an actual “theme” so to speak, I love animals but wasn’t quite sure how to put them into a nursery unless I went with the jungle theme and that wasn’t reds and blues. I hate sports so that was an automatic out and unfortunately that was the only theme that seemed to come in dark red and dark blue! Go figure! So I just went with the thought of the colors and started………..I thought of airplanes, trains and sailboats. I’d like to incorporate all of those into the colors however so far I’ve only found sailboats! I think they are super cute. So here is the furniture we chose. I wanted a light colored wood because the room is small and thought dark furniture would crowd it, it’s such a bright room I hate to crowd it.

WNursery10e also have a huge bright window in his room. It has a beautiful shelf seat underneath it, I’ve always loved this look and we only have two windows in our whole house that are set up this way so I’m treasuring them. One is in our office/spare room that I have yet to do anything with besides display family pictures. The other is in Drew’s room. I want to try and make it a window seat, though it’s a little skinny I think I can make it work. I don’t have the awesome storage that picture has above the window but I’m hoping to be able to make the cushion in a plaid fabric with cute blue and red throw pillows on them.

I also found a really cute plaid fabric from Pottery Barn. This is what I’m going to go with as far as colors and try and match to this. I’m not buying an actual comforter set this time around. Nursery14 Everyone was right, I never used the bumpers in her bed and I still have never used the actual comforter that came with the set so I don’t want to waste the money on the bedding set. Though I love it and think it’s super cute! I’m just going to buy red and blue sheets, the mobile that matches this set and maybe the bed skirt, but still not sure I want to spend $60 on something that will barley show on the bottom of the crib. Funny how the first time around I didn’t think of money and what I’d be wasting. I just didn’t care, I never thought I’d be able to pull off this nursery with the money limit we had but so far I’m doing great so I’m happy! It’s just funny how wrapped up we get to make it just perfect, fill with with just enough love for our little ones when they will never remember it and you change it a few years later when they become toddlers or “big kids”. Oh well, just something else we do for our kids. I for one am glad I’m documenting it so he can see the love I put into it for him 🙂

Nursery11I also ordered the basket inserts to match this set. Gosh Pottery Barn charges anywhere from $20-$60 for a basket, no thanks, I ordered a bunch from target and luckily I’m crafty enough to make them fit! It’s hard to imagine it all coming together, but it was like that when I did my daughters room too, then once it did I was more than happy with it, so……………I’m going with it! If you take a look at the closet for his room, it’s small but has some good space for storage and baskets galore!! Luckily IT’S A BOY because Madison got the big closet!

Let’s see what else……..oh I found these cute little hooks I ordered that are from the same theme from Pottery Barn, they are hooks meant to hang things on but I just think they are super cute! I ordered the red and blue one!

I’ve come to realize that this isn’t an easy job LOL. Fun job but not easy. It helps that I have a supportive husband that saysNursery12 “Do your thing!” I think this time around all I’ll need him for is to put the actual furniture together. Last time around he insisted on doing a chair rail and we did have to paint too, I’m hoping this saves him some work since he has enough to do around here! We also have a piece of furniture that came from my husband’s childhood that we’d like to use. We aren’t sure if it’s going to match the actual color of the furniture that we chose, he said he would stain it to match (again something else for him to do!) I really wanted to do this, I’ve never stained my own piece of furniture before and I know a lot of women that do and looks like something I could handle, but unfortunately I can’t be around the stuff you use to stain it boo whooooo.

Nursery13I had purchased some curtains for my Family room when we first moved, only to find out that I’m the only one who liked them! I didn’t want to spend money on others so I decided since they were the blue color I want to use in Drew’s room that they would be perfect for his window! Score! So they got packed away in his closet, as I type this I slowly see it coming together. I can’t wait to get going on it. I also just purchased some art from Etsy. I ordered two of these three in a solid color and one in the stripes, all stripes are too busy for me! I actually like that they aren’t framed, that they will be sent to me as is and I’ll get to frame them myself. Something else I can do myself! Have I mentioned how much I’m loving Etsy Shops these days!! So between those and the letters above spelling out his name we will have plenty for his wall!

So with all of these awesome new purchases I CAN NOT wait to start putting this little guys room together. I still have to get a rug, and I found this lamp shade that I love that I haven’t quite decided on yet because Madison has a lamp in her room that we needed when we first did her nursery at the condo, but when we moved we realized each room has a ceiling fan and light so I may not need it……….it’s super cute though!  Nursery16Of course some personal pictures will go up, but that will all come in time. I’m still not sure if we will purchase a rocking chair this time around, not that I wouldn’t use it, but it’s another $300 and I now have a love seat/sitting area in my bedroom that I’m hoping to use to feed Drew at night, hoping my husband sleeps through it! If not, we may cave and purchase a rocking chair! Some advice that was given to me awhile back about trying to prepare Madison for little brother’s arrival was to let her help me put the room together so I’m excited and I hope she wants to help me. I just want to include her as much as I can, I want her to love this as much as I do………Pretty doubtful huh!! Well wishful thinking! Thanks for checking out my idea’s and I can’t wait to share the final product with you all.
