Cuisine: Appetizer
Serves: 12
  • 4 large yellow onions, sliced
  • 1 large yellow onion, minced
  • ½ stick of butter
  • 2 tbsp. of butter
  • 1 tsp. of sugar
  • Salt
  • 2 tbsp. of olive oil
  • 3 tbs. of Dijon Mustard
  • 2 tsp. of Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 pkg. of slider buns or Hawaiian rolls (I used 12 small slider buns)
  • 6-8 slices of provolone cheese
  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Heat the olive oil and butter over medium hight heat until the mixture shimmers.
  3. Add the onion and coat them thoroughly and spread the mixture out evenly in the pan. Depending on your stove you may need to turn it down to medium to prevent the onions from burning.
  4. Let the onions cook for 10 minutes and then sprinkle the sugar and salt on top.
  5. Cook onions for another 20 minutes stirring throughout but not too much, you want them to slowly brown. If they get to dry add a little more oil. Continue cooking and scraping until they turn a good shade of brown.
  6. While the onions are caramelizing in a smaller pan melt the ½ a stick of butter over medium heat swirling it around. Once it's almost melted add the minced onions.
  7. Coat the onions with the butter and then add the dijon mustard and Worcestershire sauce.
  8. Mix to combine the flavors and cook for 5 minutes or until the onions are done. Set aside.
  9. Line a 13x9 baking dish with tinfoil. Cut the sliders in half (it's easy if they are combined, just slice right down the middle) add the bottoms to the baking dish.
  10. Spread the caramelized onions on top of the slider bottoms.
  11. Place the cheese on top overlapping if needed.
  12. Place the slider tops on top of the cheese.
  13. Using a spoon scoop some of the minced onion mixture on the top of each slider.
  14. Bake for 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
