Dear Madison: Always Stay Humble and Kind

Dear Madison,

I dropped you off at school this morning and cried the whole way home. I had to peel you off of me, leave you with the teacher, turn around wave, and smile. My heart breaks leaving you, but I must. I must walk away and let you experience life. I must walk away smiling when my heart breaks sometimes too sweet girl. God I worry about you. In ways that are so indescribable and maybe not even normal. Lately you’ve been trying so hard to talk about your feelings. I know it doesn’t come easy for you but I’m so proud that in the past few weeks you’ve been able to tell me what your scared of. Your afraid Momma or Daddy won’t come pick you up at school. You even admitted to having dreams about it. I want to scream at the top of my lungs “don’t you trust me!!” “Don’t you know that I would never ever not come back for you!!” As the tears streamed down my face, I sang out loud to a new country song by Tim McGraw called “Always Stay Humble and Kind.” I felt like I was singing it to you that morning sweet girl.

Always Stay Humble and Kind

“You know there’s a light that glows by the front door
Don’t forget the key’s under the mat
Childhood stars shine, always stay humble and kind
Go to church ’cause your momma says to
Visit grandpa every chance that you can
It won’t be wasted time
Always stay humble and kind

Madison, may you always know that you’ll have a house to call home. You can always come home. The stars in the sky are all meant for you sweet girl. Wish upon them and know that you can make those wishes come true if you alway stay humble and kind. Always make time for your grandmothers. They adore you, you are their light, when you get older make them lemonade, sit on the deck and let them tell you stories of their childhood. I promise someday you’ll miss those days as I miss them with my own grandmother.

Hold the door, say please, say thank you
Don’t steal, don’t cheat, and don’t lie
I know you got mountains to climb but
Always stay humble and kind
When the dreams you’re dreamin’ come to you
When the work you put in is realized
Let yourself feel the pride but
Always stay humble and kind

Madison, always remember your manners, not because we taught you but because it makes you feel good inside. You struggle with saying good morning or hello to someone when they walk by but maybe some day you’ll be that person that holds the door for someone who may need a little extra help. I know there will be so many harder roads ahead but I promise you those roads will take you where your supposed to be. When your dreams start coming true, when all of your hard work has been paid off let yourself be proud but always stay humble and kind.

Don’t expect a free ride from no one
Don’t hold a grudge or a chip and here’s why
Bitterness keeps you from flyin’
Always stay humble and kind
Know the difference between sleeping with someone
And sleeping with someone you love
“I love you” ain’t no pick up line so
Always stay humble and kind

Always Stay Humble and Kind

Madison, work hard and you’ll get there someday. Don’t expect people to hand you your dreams, the only person who can make those stars align and those dreams come true are you sweet girl. Always forgive, be the bigger person because in the end you will feel good on the inside. May you experience a love like I have with your father, I will teach you to know the difference between words and actions, a man must prove his love to you by doing not by saying.

When it’s hot, eat a root beer popsicle
Shut off the AC and roll the windows down
Let that summer sun shine
Always stay humble and kind
Don’t take for granted the love this life gives you
When you get where you’re goin
Don’t forget turn back around
And help the next one in line
Always stay humble and kind

Most importantly Madison, smile and have fun! Eat candy in the morning, let your pony tail down (if you ever have one) run like the wind! Feel the warm air on your face and let your hair touch your shoulders. Never ever think that life can’t change in the drop of a dime because it can. It can throw bends in your road that may result in circles but if you continue to smell the flowers along the way it can be the very best life lived. Always remember how you got there and who helped you along the way. The person who held your hand, brushed your tears away and talked with you until all hours of the night are the people you want to surround yourself with.

Always stay humble and kind sweet girl.
All my love,
Momma
